CONSTITUTIONALISM AS AN INSTRUMENT OF NATIONAL STABILITY IN THE FACE OF GEOPOLITICAL DYNAMICS

Abstract

This article discusses the role of constitutionalism as a strategic instrument in maintaining national stability amid increasingly complex and uncertain global geopolitical dynamics. Global geopolitical pressures, such as great power rivalries, regional conflicts, and international economic instability, frequently compel states to adopt extraordinary policies that potentially shift the principles of the rule of law. The main problems examined in this article are how constitutionalism is positioned within the Indonesian constitutional law system, the relationship between constitutionalism and national stability, and the role of constitutionalism in responding to global geopolitical pressures. The objective of this study is to analyze constitutionalism not merely as a normative principle, but also as an instrument with a strategic function in maintaining lawful and sustainable national stability. The research method employed is normative legal research utilizing both conceptual and statutory approaches, drawing upon the theories of constitutionalism, the rule of law, and national resilience. The findings indicate that constitutionalism plays a vital role in ensuring that state responses to global geopolitical dynamics remain within constitutional corridors, thereby granting the established national stability legal legitimacy, accountability of power, and long-term sustainability.
